ABC's summer drama efforts "Scoundrels" and "The Gates" got off to a pretty modest start Sunday evening.
At 9 p.m., the soap "Scoundrels" (5.2 million viewers, 1.3 preliminary adults 18-49 rating) came in third place in the hour behind repeats of Fox's animated comedies and NBC's golf coverage bleeding into "Law & Order: Criminal Intent."
At 10 p.m., supernatural drama "The Gates" (4.6 million, 1.5) performed better than "Scoundrels" in the adult demo. "Gates" improved 15% upon its lead-in and won the hour.
Both dramas outperformed ABC's miniseries in the time period last year, "Impact."
Based on early numbers, ratings for NBC's coverage of the US Open (9.6 million, 2.3) are up from last year.
At 7 p.m., Fox burned off the series finale (finally!) of "Til Death" (1.5 million, 0.6), followed by "Sons of Tucson" (1.4 million, 0.6).
HBO's "True Blood" ratings will be available tomorrow.
