Ausiello: Let me see if I can peel back the thick layer of denial long enough to type this next sentence: My last day at EW is this Friday. Question: Any information on when Olivia Wilde is returning to House? —Christine
Ausiello: Probably not until spring. You’ll be happy to know that her temporary replacement, Amber Tamblyn, makes a positive first impression in her Nov. 8 debut. As you would expect, her character — supersmart and moralistic med student Martha M. Masters — gets quite a hazing from House‘s boys club. We’ll soon discover that a member of said club shares a past with House‘s “immutable obstacle,” as Dr. Crankenstein calls her. Other colorful nicknames assigned to the newbie on her first day of work include:

* The love child of Einstein and Mary Poppins
* The Bunny
* Pippy Long Division

Question: House scoop? —Jennifer
Ausiello: House pink-slips a member of his team during November sweeps. Not once, not twice, but three times. Also, three major characters do some jail time.

Question: Could you please give some spoilers on Psych regarding Shawn and Juliet? —Steve
Ausiello: The show’s fall premiere (airing Nov. 10) will pick up shortly after the couple’s big kiss in the finale. “Our viewers are probably a little unsure of what that kiss meant,” says exec producer Steve Franks. “Will Juliet still take some time away on the Amalfi coast with Declan, or did the kiss change her mind? In the 5.5 premiere, she is still on her way to Italy, and Shawn is on his way to Canada at the request of convicted thief Pierre Despereaux [a returning Cary Elwes]. Their divergent travel plans may have derailed their romantic momentum, until Juliet unexpectedly shows up in Vancouver for Despereaux’s extradition and that spark becomes a fire. The question is, Do Shawn and Juliet believe ‘what happens in Canada, stays in Canada’? Stay tuned.”

Question: I recently discovered that we share the same birthday — Feb. 23! In honor of that, I think you should share some Bones scoop with me! — Catherine
Ausiello: Seinfeld‘s Wayne Knight will channel his inner Willy Wonka when he guest-stars as a candy magnate in an episode that features “one of our most revolting body finds ever,” reveals exec producer Stephen Nathan. “A body is discovered inside one of the world’s largest chocolate bars. It’s delightfully revolting.”

Question: Which episode marks Hannah’s permanent exit from Bones? —Lexie
Ausiello: That’s awfully presumptuous of you, Lexie. The fact is, Katheryn Winnick’s stint as Booth’s lover (and Brennan’s new BFF) doesn’t actually have an end date. “We don’t know how long she’s going to be with us this season,” says Nathan. “We want to keep it open. Hannah’s story is still evolving; we don’t know how we want to wrap it up. And even if she does go away, we want to leave open the possibility that she may come back.”

Question: It’s been a while since we’ve had any good Bones scoops. Do you have any interesting information to get me through the baseball hiatus? —Amy
Ausiello: How ’bout another tidbit about everyone’s favorite character, Hannah. “I’m working on an episode right now where Brennan and Hannah’s friendship is tested,” reveals Nathan. “It relates to something that happened between Booth and Brennan at the end of the Brennan-centric episode. It creates some friction between Booth, Brennan, and Hannah that has to be worked out.” Hmm…any thoughts on what happens between B&B? Hit the comments!

Question: May I please have some Puck-related Glee scoop? —Brittany
Ausiello: He’s not the character getting expelled.

Question: Are Burt and Carole getting married on Glee? —Danielle
Ausiello: They are if Kurt has anything to say about it. Speaking of weddings, the rumors are true: Sue is going to make history by becoming the first person on earth to marry — or at least attempt to marry — ****el*!

Ausiello: Save the date: Their first kiss is scheduled for Nov. 9! In related news, did you hear about this?

Ausiello: You’ll get your answer on Nov. 12.

Question: Do you have any Modern Family scoop? It is easily my favorite show. —Billie
Ausiello: Mitchell’s “straight” past comes back to haunt him around mid-November when CTU legend Mary Lynn Rajskub guest-stars as his ex. “She dated Mitchell in high school, and they may’ve done the nasty,” says Rajskub with a chuckle. “I think he broke my heart.” The two have what Rajskub calls an “awkward” reunion at a shopping center. “Mitch and Cam end up coming over to talk to me about an incident,” she teases, “but I can’t discuss that because it’ll ruin the story.”

Question: I was curious if you had any information on the 24 movie. Will it be going into production soon? —Brandon
Ausiello: Based on the following status report from Rajskub, I’m guessing the answer is no. “I don’t know what’s going on with it,” she says. “Everybody asks me about it, but I don’t know anything. I think it would be great if it happened a year after the show went off the air, but I haven’t heard anything.”

Question: Beautiful series finale of Ausiello TV. I laughed, I cried, I was surprised and confused. Thanks for all the great scoop, wit, snark, and Smurfy goodness. I promise to weep for all of six seconds before moving forward with life. —Jen
Ausiello: Thanks, Jenny. That means a lot. One quick thing: You are aware I’m not dying, right? Just want to make sure you knew that.

Question: Can you give us a really juicy Grey’s Anatomy spoiler as a going-away present? —Ashley
Ausiello: Um, shouldn’t you be buying me the presents? Eh, whatever. This has always been kind of a one-sided relationship, so no point screwing with such a winning formula now. Here’s your scoop: Series creator Shonda Rhimes reiterated to me in a recent interview that Callie and Arizona are in it for the long haul. “Their journey is going to be long and hard, but that doesn’t mean they’re not going to end up together,” she maintained. “People better just prepare themselves for things to be difficult.” I then asked her if she would out Mark and Lexie in that same soul-mate-type category, and she replied, “No,” before quickly adding, “That doesn’t mean that I don’t see them as two people who are going to end up together… There’s hope for Mark and Lexie, [but] Lexie has some growing up to do, as does Mark.”

Question: There’s a Grey’s rumor going around about an Alex/April/Lexie triangle. True? —Diana
Ausiello: False. “I honestly have no idea what [fans] are talking about,” responded Rhimes. “We have no plans for an Alex/April/Lexie triangle.”

Question: Got anything on the truly epic Boardwalk Empire? —Hope
Ausiello: We meet Nucky’s (Steve Buscemi) dad in this Sunday’s episode, and to say father and son had a frakked-up relationship is an understatement of epic proportions. The ep also features a memorable showdown between Michael Pitt’s Jimmy and the thug who slashed his hooker girlfriend’s face. Oh, and shocker: Another recurring character gets whacked!

Question: Can I have some scoop on Castle? —Lori
Ausiello: A pivotal couple will break things off in the near future, and I can confirm it’s either Gina and Castle or Beckett and this guy. Elsewhere, a new — and rather surprising — interoffice romance will ignite in January.

Question: Can you please give me some good NCIS scoop, preferably about McGee? —Z.
Ausiello: He’s not the team member who gets “shot” in the big two-parter on Nov. 16 and 23. For those keeping track at home, that leaves Tony, Vance, and Ziva in the running. Oh, and I put SHOT in quotes because it’s not exactly a traditional shooting. The person will be wounded not by a gun, but by an explosive weapon.

Question: Could you please resume using the term “hitcom”? I really like it. Thanks for your consideration. —Ron
Ausiello: Yes! This past week has been HELL without it! Consider it officially reactivated!

Question: I was reading that CBS might cancel CSI: NY. —Jen
Ausiello: I think you’re confusing CSI: NY with Medium, which just had its episode order cut back from 22 to 13. I think CSI: NY — which has been doing solid business on Fridays — is safe for the time being. Speaking of the spin-off, Karina Lombard of Rescue Me and L Word fame has just been cast as the grieving mother of the victim in a January episode.

Question: What chance does Parenthood have of getting a full season? —Chevy
Ausiello: I’d say it stands a pretty good chance, since it already received a full-season pickup in May.

Question: I would like some 90210 scoop, please. —Greg
Ausiello: Casting scoop: Make It or Break It‘s Zachary Abel has been tapped to play, um, Zach, a hot surfer dude that Naomi develops a major crush on.

Question: What is the deal with Juliet on Gossip Girl? —Kathleen
Ausiello: The deal is I’m hearing a major character (or two) will join forces with the troublemaker to take Serena down. Exec producer Stephanie Savage, meanwhile, says, “A good chunk of Juliet’s plan will be revealed by the end of the first half of the season, but elements of it will carry over.”

Question: I’m in need of some Chuck spoilers to make my day better! —Natalie
Ausiello: There’s a major twist at the end of next Monday’s episode, and it involves him and her.

Question: After watching this week’s episode of Brothers & Sisters I’m scared for the future of Kevin and Scotty. Please tell me they’ll live happily ever after! —Stucky
Ausiello: B&S showrunner David Marshall Grant sure isn’t talking like it’s the end. “This isn’t so much about the crisis itself,” he says, “as it is about watching two people fight their way through it.” BTW, we’ll met the “other man” this Sunday, and he’s going to look a lot like Ryan Abbot from Three Rivers (a.k.a. Christopher Hanke).

Question: Like, joking aside, what’s happened to all the Brothers & Sisters scoops?! Please! I’m desperate! —Sophie
Ausiello: As my frenemy first scooped, Balthazar Getty is returning in January for the show’s 100th episode. And per Grant, he’ll be sticking around for a while. “He’s coming back for [at least] three episodes,” says the boss, who confirms that Tommy returns with a new girlfriend on his arm. “It causes a big stir in the Walker family.”

Question: Got any Good Wife scoop? —Carly C.
Ausiello: Casting scoop!! Leelee Sobieski will guest star in a January episode as the girlfriend of one of Lockhart/Bond’s most influential clients. Both stand accused of using prescription stimulants.

Question: What’s the latest on Grey’s giving viewers proper closure for Alex and Izzie? —Jesus
Ausiello: The latest appears in the new issue of Entertainment Weekly. And it’s juicy.

Question: Do you know any Vampire Diaries scoop? —Savannah
Ausiello: Trent Ford and Daniel Gillies have joined the show along with Lauren Cohan as centuries old vampires, Trevor, Elijah, and Rose. “They have deep ties to Katerina Petrova,” reveals exec producer Julie Plec. “They will be heavily featured in November Sweeps episodes ‘Rose’ and ‘Katerina’.”
 

‘Royal Pains,’ ‘White Collar,’ & ‘Psych’ All Renewed

USA has renewed Royal Pains, White Collar and Psych. With those renewals, all of USA Network’s scripted shows have now been renewed – Royal Pains and White Collar for third seasons and Psych for a sixth season.

According to reports, Royal Pains is being picked up for a 16-18 episode season, and Psych and White Collar for 16 episode seasons.
 

'Psych': Julee Cruise joins 'Twin Peaks'-themed episode!

Diane: 4:35 pm, third floor, Time Inc. headquarters here in New York. I just got my hands on another red-hot scoop regarding Psych‘s forthcoming Twin Peaks-inspired episode.

Sources confirm to me exclusively that the highly-anticipated hour will open with a special version of the Psych theme song performed by….Ms. Julee Cruise!

As you know, an instrumental version of Cruise’s haunting ’89 hit, “Falling,” served as Peaks‘ theme song. She also appeared frequently on the groundbreaking ABC drama as a singer at the local biker bar The Roadhouse.

The Psych/Peaks episode will air during Psych‘s fall run.
 

'Psych': 'Twin Peaks' homage nabs Sherilyn Fenn, Sheryl Lee, and the Log Lady!

Diane: 5:35 pm, third floor, Time Inc. headquarters here in New York. I just got my hands on a red-hot scoop regarding Psych‘s forthcoming Twin Peaks homage.

Sources confirm to me exclusively that two of Peaks‘ most iconic faces, Sheryl Lee (Laura/Maddy) and Sherilyn Fenn (Audrey), will appear in the episode alongside previously announced guest star Dana Ashbrook (Bobby). All three will play residents of Dual Spires (get it?), a quirky Northern California town that has been rocked by the death of a high school student.

But wait, there’s more…

Peaks‘ enigmatic Log Lady, Catherine Coulson, has signed on to make a cameo as—get this—the mysterious Woman with Wood, and Ray Wise (Leland) will reprise his season 4 Psych role as Father Westley. Also popping up in cameos will be Peaks alums Lenny Von Dohlen (a.k.a. agoraphobic horticulturist Harold) and Robyn Lively (a.k.a. seductress Lana).

The episode—co-written by self-professed Peaks addict Roday—will air during Psych‘s fall run. The show’s summer finale airs tomorrow night.

Is Kenneth (Jack McBrayer) jumping ship on 30 Rock? This is the news that has us devastated this week in our roundup of exclusive TV scoop!! But hmmm...perhaps you wanna hear some juicy tidbits about the possible return of Britney Spears to Glee (and confirmation that Jonathan Groff will be back!), a kick-ass new sidekick on Castle, the latest on Chuck and Blair on Gossip Girl, a possible return for John Lithgow to Dexter and True Blood's season finale?

We love Heather Morris (Brittany) too! Ran into exec producer Dante Di Loreto at an Emmys event for nominated producers and he spilled about the upcoming "Britney/Brittany" bonanza, "Heather Morris can really sing. We know she can dance, but to see her dance and hear her sing all at once is really fantastic. She knocks it out of the park. And we learn a lot of new things about Brittany in the episode—we might be surprised to hear what Brittany thinks about Britney Spears." Dante also revealed that "We're all working hard to make more Glee for you: Football players were dancing until about three o'clock in the morning on Friday." Mmmm…were they dancing to Brit's "Stronger," being football players and all? "Ryan [Murphy] would kill me if I told you. But I would say…you're smart." Yay! That gingo bilboa is paying off. Or wait…How is it spelled? (Joaking!)

Yep! Exec producer Dante DiLoreto (whom you can follow @GleeTV on Twitter, BTW) tells us, "Yes, absolutely, without a doubt Jonathan will be back. He's in London right now. We're hoping he'll finish that pesky play and come back and work with us." Hurry up, dude! Rachel Berry has a raw egg with your name on it!

Scott in Detroit, Mich.: I totally remember Joe Manganiello, True Blood's Alcide, as Brad on How I Met Your Mother! Any chance he'll make another appearance on the show?
Ew. That flabby schlub? "I would bet money that Brad will be back." That's what the ridonkulously hot man himself told us. So what exactly has Brad been up to since we last saw him in the season five premiere? "He revealed he may be a hermaphrodite 'cause he tells Robin, 'I'm a little different down there,' So maybe deeper into the mystery of what Brad is," Joe suggested. "We need to figure out what Brad is. We're figuring out who the mother is and what exactly Brad is. It's kind of the b-plot of the show, 'What is Brad?'" B-plot?! Charlotte in Georgia: I love Modern Family, and I hope they win all the Emmys this weekend! Have you been able to get any scoop on season two at the Emmys events?
Alex (Ariel Winter) is getting several storylines this year. Ariel tells us, "Alex gets a little friend who probably will develop into something more. Alex is turning into a teenager and maybe more of the popular girl. She'll still be the know-it-all, the smart aleck, but she's just going to be a little popular." Ooh, and what does big sis Haley (Sarah Hyland) think of that? "I don't think Alex really cares what her big sister thinks. I think once she becomes top dog in her school, it's going to be, 'Hey, I'm as cool as me now so you can't say anything. I can still make fun of you, but you can't make fun of me.' "

Drew in Chicago: What's the latest on Brothers and Sisters? You haven't talked about it in a while!
I forgot! And that's exactly what's going to be happening to Holly (Patricia Wettig) in the new season—except she's gonna forget something much, um, bigger. She has memory loss and can't even remember her own daughter Rebecca, from what I hear. I'm guessing this makes the loss of Emily VanCamp somehow easier? But crazy, right?! I love it. I'm also told that Emily will appear in episode three and four of the new season and that she and Justin will have some serious problems. Oh, and there may be another little Walker on the way! One of the women wants to get pregnant. Guesses?

Heather in Tuscaloosa, Ala.: Why, oh why, is there no Mad Men scoop? Pleeeaaaase give us some dish!
The divine Christina Hendricks, who plays Joan Holloway Harris, tells us, "There is a lot about to happen, so tune in. It's going to be good. Mad Men without darkness is Disneyland without Mickey Mouse. It will be there." Rich Sommer, aka Harry Crane, agrees, promising, "I can say the show doesn't get any less dark. You'll see some deeper levels of despair—but it's still funny! I think as long as someone like Roger Sterling (John Slattery) is around, it'll still stay light." Any guesses about what's so bad?

Heather in Chico, Calif: What's the latest on Finn and Rachel?
In case you missed it: PDA central! Something tells me they're going to be giving Cam and Mitchell a run for the money. Ryan Murphy talks about how they're going to be very visible in very public places with their love (you happy, Finnchel fans!?) and how Will and Emma fans aren't so lucky in this exclusive right here.

Francesca: So happy John Lithgow won the Emmy on Saturday! Will he be back on Dexter at all?
Well, his character Trinity is dead but we here at WWK Central have spent way too much time decoding my on-camera interview with John and have reached the verdict of: Absolutely! John's words said: "You know, people who work on Dexter never answer questions like that. You know that! It's a cultural secrecy surrounding Dexter. It makes it a lot of fun. Half the time, we didn't even know what was coming." But the avoidance of the Q, coupled with John's head shake and smile gave it all away if you ask me! I also broke the news to Mr. Trinity that Julie Benz hasn't been able to take a bath since the last season finale, and Lithgow laughed: "I did for bathtubs what Janet Leigh did for showers back in the '50s." True dat. I miss feeling pruney.


Eli in New York: Can't wait until Sept. 26! Spill me some news about Dexter, please.
According to James Remar, this season brings still more growth for our fave killer and all his family members, dead and alive: "As Dexter's personality progresses, Harry progresses. I believe at this time, Harry's more of a companionate figure. He's more of a companion than a specter that haunts him—and Dexter's not being as rebellious." Hmmm…could Harry be taking the brakes off Dexter this season? Interesting. (BTW, James is ready and willing to return to The Vampire Diaries as Giuseppe Salvatore should he be called upon to do so. "You never know with the vampires." Indeed.)

Greg in New Hampshire: Is Kenneth the Page really off of 30 Rock this season? Didn't he show up drunk at the end of the season finale saying he was fired?
Yes, Jack MacBrayer is off the show because he just really wasn't working out. Also, monkeys are going to fly out of Tina Fey's butt. Translation: They would never let Kenneth/ Jack go! But how crazy is this Twitter photo that Grizz sent out via Twtter http://twitgoo.com/1jn8s1 that clearly shows Kenneth working for some crazy network that has an eyeball logo or something. Traitor! I'm appalled, Kenneth. Just appalled.

Nikki in Bowling Green, Ohio: Parenthood was one of my favorite new shows last year, and I need some scoop on the second season!
You're in luck, because the season premiere date is just around the corner (Sept. 14!) Erika Christensen was gracious and lovely enough to spill some tidbits on what's coming up for Julia, and it involves spawning. "My character decides she wants to get pregnant and have a second child," Erika tells us as at the Creative Emmy Awards. "Her husband maybe isn't quite as enthusiastic about it as she is." And if her hubby ain't gonna do the job, someone else might! There are plenty of hot dudes coming on the show next season, after all. "When a woman makes up her mind, she gets what she wants. I do occasionally think maybe she'll have an affair at one point," she says. Relax, she's joking. Or is she?

Roland in Toluca Lake, Calif.: It would be so double rainbow if you could give me any secrets from the next season of Castle.
Remember when you thought Stana Katic couldn't get any hotter? You are so wrong, bro. "Beckett rides a motor bike!" she tells us gleefully. And this won't be a one time thing either, so don't you worry—it's her new thing. "Beckett definitely has a motor bike at home. I'm so stoked. I can't wait!" We can't either. Meanwhile, that sound you hear is millions of fanboys drawing up concepts for Stana's leather biker-babe ensembles.

Libbie in Georgetown, Texas: Please tell me you've seen the season three premiere of Sons of Anarchy! You have to give me something! I gotta know how the Sons react to poor Abel's kidnapping, if they react at all!
Oh, they definitely react. No doubt about that. Season three is all about the effect that Abel's kidnapping has on the club, and Sons show runner Kurt Sutter just revealed that, "Season three is a bit different for us. I felt like after two seasons of serialized character development, fans would be open to learn more about the history of the club. This season we delve into the mythology of the Sons connection to the IRA and John Teller's relationship with Belfast. It's a huge season for Jax. In fact, it's all about the three generations of Tellers—John, Jax and Abel." (Among other things, we'll actually see John Teller's face for the first time this season.)

Steph in Austin, TX: Kristin, there's a rumor that Chuck tries to rape and beat Blair. Can you clear that up for me because if this happens, [Gossip Girl] can shove this show where the sun doesn't shine. Thanks!
Per my rock-solid source: "LOL. Not true in the least." So no one needs to shove anything anywhere uncomfortable. Phew!

Sarah in Massapequa, N.Y.: Am I the only person sensing some romantic tension between Aria's dad Byron (Chad Lowe) and Hanna's mom Ashley (Laura Leighton) on Pretty Little Liars?
Trust us, you are definitely not the only one catching the pair's meaningful stares and ever-growing connection, but there might be someone standing in their way when this guiltiest of guilty pleasures returns, and that someone ain't his estranged wife, Ella (Holly Marie Combs). We caught up with Amanda Schull, aka Byron's former mistress Meredith, who tells us fans will be seeing more of her in the second half of the season: "As far as I know I will be [back]. I don't know the details of that but I know that the story line, especially the story lines in the book say I will be." Well, according to the books she's around for a (pregnant pause)… long time. Oops, was that too obvious?

Kiley in Colorado: Any scoop on Psych? My friends and I all agree that this season's run of episodes has been awesome—so much better than all of last year's serious drama!
Agreed! Lost's Nestor Carbonell spilled to us about his upcoming guest gig on Psych: "I play a criminal profiler who rivals Shawn, James Roday's character, and who one-ups him at every turn. Shawn's never had somebody one-up him. Shawn's always the man in charge—he's pretty much a superhero. But I come in and I destroy him—which is a lot of fun."

Jessica: True Blood! How great was last night's episode?
So great I'm honestly broken up that there are only two episodes left! I just interviewed the completely amazing Denis O'Hare (Russell Edgington, the big bad vampire king) and he told me that the season finale was his most challenging work yet (gulp!), and that "Sookie is very mean to me…Eric is very mean to me…and I cry tears of joy." I am a little alarmed by that last tease! What on Earth could make Russell so happy? Talbot somehow coming back from the crystal urn? A double rainbow? An all-you-can-eat baby buffet?

Karen in Illinois: Are you going to retract your statement about the werewolf gang rape [on True Blood]? That never happened.
Sorry! My very bad bad. And proof that apparently I am the one with the truly sick mind. I personally thought the werewolf initiation scene to be something of a gang-rape scene, hence my mention on E! News of it…I don't know, perhaps it was open to interpretation, or I'm in need of serious medication? (Don't answer that.) Regardless: I went back and you're right: No actual rape was ever shown. My apologies for my apparently overactive imagination and please know, True Blood remains one of my all-time favorite shows. That is an indisputable fact.

It's a reminder that each season of True Blood covers very little time…Only a few weeks! Arlene is only about 7-8 weeks pregnant, so really, very little time has passed since Rene's death in season one. All I know is a lot happens in Bon Temps and I don't want to live there. Britney in Dallas, Texas: I'm so over Stelena and Delena on The Vampire Diaries. Please tell me we will see more Dalaric!
You can rest easy because we will be seeing plenty of Damon and Alaric teaming up in season two. We asked the show's very own Buffy (spin-off idea: Alaric The Vampire Slayer!) Matt Davis, about the unlikely duo's partnership and here's what he told us: "Our bromance is definitely developing. You'll see much more of that for sure. I love Ian to pieces and I love working with him and I think our chemistry as friends and the way Kevin and Julie write the two of them together, just the archetypes of the two characters together I think fit really well." If that wasn't cute enough for you, Matt recently tweeted a picture of the duo's nifty supernatural rings with the caption, "Wonder Twin power unite in shape of a bromance!!!" Um, I die.

Monica: Hi! Any scoop on 90210?
Michael Steger tells us: "I show up in a Ferrari, I got rid of the Lamborghini, so I am driving a new car to school on the first day." Jessica Lowndes: "My new character is no longer in high school, she's touring and singing, so there's a lot more music, which has been a lot of fun." And Matt Lanter: "There's always drama, love triangles, I've got a half-brother coming in. There's a big earthquake that happens in episode one, so it kind of affects everybody, it's kind of fun." By the way, Matt stars as the Robert Pattison in the new spoof movie Vampires Suck and jokes about his anticipated reaction from Twilight fans: "I got a couple extra deadbolts on my door just as a precaution, but so far, I haven't needed 'em."

Yes! This week's episode puts the affairs in Covert Affairs. We'll learn that not one but two of Augie's girlfriends are known troublemakers who are being watched by the CIA. Oh, and Chris Gorham takes his shirt off and proves he's definitely no Henry Grubstick skinny nerd. Meow!

Sara in Springfield, Ill.: When, oh when, does Greek come back? I must know what happens to Cappie and Casey!
They are finishing up the filming of season four right now, but it won't premiere until January! Doesn't that seem just ridiculously far away? And while no official announcement has been made on a renewal, when we visited the set we were told that the writers have been wrapping up storylines as if this was the last season. Bummer city. In regards to Cappie and Casey, Spencer Grammer did tell us that they "reconcile in some way." Feel free to speculate on that little gem for the next four months.

USA firmed up its fall and January premiere dates schedule, locking in its latest procedural "Facing Kate" and scheduling "Psych," "Burn Notice," "Royal Pains" and "White Collar."

Here's the deal:

-- "Psych" and "Burn Notice" will return in November, the former on Wednesday Nov. 10 and the latter on Thursday, Nov. 11.

Question: As of today, I have officially seen every single episode of Grey’s Anatomy, and now I don’t know what to do with myself! Grey’s scoop, please! —Bea
Ausiello: Even though nearly two months will have passed since the shooting rampage, Derek will still be in pretty bad shape when the season starts. And I’m not talking physically.

Question: What can you tell us about the Grey’s Anatomy premiere? —Claudia
Ausiello: A major character will be sent directly to jail by the end of the episode. Hint: This person has already been name-checked in this week’s AA.

Question: Do you know if NCIS will deal more with what happened to Ziva in Somalia? —Carlee
Ausiello: Funny you should ask. Exec producer Shane Brennan just told me the following: “In November sweeps, we dip again into a story that perhaps everyone thought was played out. It involves Ziva.”

Questions: I am dying for some NCIS scoop. Any news on the season premiere? —Lyss
Ausiello: Brennan says the resolution of last season’s cliffhanger will “speak volumes about what sort of dad Gibbs Sr. was to his son. And you see why Gibbs is very much cut from the same cloth. He may be old, but he’s feisty.”

Question: Is Rena Sofer returning to NCIS? —Brenda
Ausiello: “She’s not in the premiere,” says Brennan. “But she didn’t die. And unless they carry you out feet first, never say never.”

Question: Any scoop on Private Practice? —Alex
Ausiello: Dexter’s dad is paying a visit! James Remar has been cast in the potentially recurring role of Gibby, a physician with Doctors Without Borders and an old friend of Pete’s. He’ll first turn up in this season’s third episode. Oh, and in case you missed TVGuide.com’s scoop, Pete and Violet are getting married in the premiere. (BTW, there’s no connection between their nuptials and this story. Thought you should know.)

Question: Please tell me you have some Bones scoop that doesn’t involve Booth’s new girlfriend. I really need the distraction. —Amy
Ausiello: As they approach their first-year anniversary, Angela and Hodgins will remain an “ironclad couple,” says exec producer Hart Hanson. “They are in the honeymoon phase but they keep getting smacked in the head. But the honeymoon phase never goes away. They are deeply, deeply in love. We just want to do everything to a couple you would do to a couple that is going to go through life together. Sort of the opposite of Booth and Brennan for the time being.” Hanson adds that he plans to “have the kitchen sink thrown at them” this season, “but they’re together for always. We could change our mind next year, but they’re pretty strong this season.”

Question: What’s this I’m hearing about a sniper stalking the Bones gang this season? —Dave
Ausiello: “We’ve got someone worse than the Gravedigger coming,” teases Hanson. “And if the Gravedigger is Evil Brennan, this next person is Evil Booth.” Sounds like a sniper to me. “Booth was a sniper,” Hanson points out, “so it may be a sniper.” In related news, sources confirm to me exclusively that Hart Hanson is legally changing his name to Teasy McTeaserson.

Question: Can you give us any sort of clue as to who is going to die on Bones? Is it a series regular? —Camilla
Ausiello: I’m 92 percent certain it is not a series regular. Hanson, meanwhile, would only tell me “it’s someone we know.” This Just In: Hart Hanson is changing his name yet again. He will now be known as Cryptic McCrypticson.

Question: What’s in store for Cate and Ryan on Life Unexpected this season? I love them together. —Ken
Ausiello: Their marriage is going to hit a few bumps, but none of them will involve Baze. “Baze has been a thorn in their side, but in the second season, the dynamic is going to shift a little bit,” reveals exec producer Liz Tigelaar. “Whereas before they had a common enemy in Baze—all of their problems can kind of be blamed on him—they come to realize that maybe other things are more of a problem. Removing Baze from the equation highlights some other things they hadn’t quite worked out. This season is very much the story of a young marriage and the trails and tribulations that they go through and the way you’re kind of thrust together, torn apart, and brought back together. It’s like everyone always says—the first year of marriage is the hardest. I think that they’re going to experience that.”

Question: I’m still really bummed about the Emmys snubbing Cougar Town—especially Busy Philipps for supporting actress! Can you give me some scoop to ease my pain? —Ed
Ausiello: This next piece of news should leave you feeling both happy and a little gay: Exec producer Bill Lawrence hints that Travis will make a gay friend in season 2. “One of the reasons Travis is going to college,” says Lawrence, “is to expand our world a little bit.” In possibly related news, Cougar Town is casting the role of Travis’ “enormous jocky college roommate” named Kevin. Think Quinton Aaron from The Blind Side—only with better fashion sense. (That last part is purely speculative.)

Question: Anything you can share about Tim/Tyra from Friday Night Lights? —Lisa
Ausiello: I asked Adrianne Palicki—star of Fox’s near-perfect fall drama Lone Star—about rumors of a Tim/Tyra reunion in season 5, and here’s what she told me: “I think if anybody ends up together it should be them. They’re so right for each other. They’re the same.” I tend to agree with her. Palicki and I also see eye-to-eye when it comes to costar Connie Britton’s long overdue Emmy nomination. For her thoughts on that, and scoop on FNL‘s wrap parties (plural), press play below.

Question: Got any scoop for Sons of Anarchy fans? I can't wait for the new season! —Kara
Ausiello: Maggie Siff (Tara) tells me that season 3 picks up almost immediately where season 2 left off. "The first episode is just a couple days after the last episode, so it's really the aftermath of the [kidnapping]," she says. "So there's still a lot of shock involved. There's this reckoning of guilt and fear and anxiety and adrenaline. The whole season is [like] that."

Question: How are audiences responding to Quintuplets? —Sara
Ausiello: You complete me, Sara.

Question: Thank you for all the scoops the past two weeks! You are completely forgiven for skipping a week of Ask Ausiello. I would love you even more if you can give me a Psych scoop, preferably a very good one. —Cecilie
Ausiello: I'm kind of shocked this hasn't gotten out, but James Roday revealed the identity of the Yin-Yang killer to me at Comic-Con—and our cameras caught the whole thing! Roday also told me that Dana Ashbrook is confirmed to guest star in the show's upcoming Twin Peaks-themed episode. BTW, if you're too lazy to go watch my interview with Roday and Dule Hill, I'll just tell you who Yin-Yang is here: It's **** *******s. Can you believe it?!

Question: Scoop on Castle, please. Are Castle and Beckett getting together anytime soon? —Maggie
Ausiello: You obviously missed my interview with Nathan Fillion at Comic-Con, during which he revealed that Castle and Beckett would spend much of the season married—in the figurative sense—to other people. Exec producer Andrew Marlowe both corroborated and expanded on that scoop when we caught up with him at press tour. "We will be introducing a boyfriend for Beckett in episode 4," he revealed. "It's someone new and surprising." Castle, meanwhile, will still be going strong with his ex—although fellow EP Rob Bowman concedes "he would prefer to be with Beckett. He acted as a gentleman should last year. She said she was with somebody else and he stepped back. But I don't think he spent his summer where he preferred to spend it. I think he wants to be back with her. We also know we like to have fun with the boy/girl chase and that as soon as he lets on any intention that he's interested, you know she's going to punish him. And that's why we watch the show."

Question: I know she's on CSI: NY now, but is there any chance Sela Ward will be returning to House this season? —Josh
Ausiello: No. That particular 'ship has sailed. This season's all about the Cuddster. "House and Cuddy alone in a room have had chemistry—that's never been in doubt," says exec producer Katie Jacobs. "Can it work in the real world? Can it work with them being coworkers? She's his boss, she has a kid, he's always breaking the rules... Can it work? I don't know, but that's the question [this season]. And she's not necessarily trying to change him. It's not like she goes, 'Oh well, I'll give it a try with House and hopefully he'll grow up.' He's never going to grow up. And she sort of thinks, 'I love him enough, maybe it could work. It's complicated.'"

Question: I'm kind of obsessed with your story about House's new opening title sequence. How exactly will it be different? —Jennifer
Ausiello: Let's ask Katie Jacobs, who's working on the revamp as we speak. "It's not all new," she says, "but I'm making a few changes because Jennifer [Morrison] is no longer in the main titles. And I am changing a little bit more than that, but I'm not changing so much that you're losing what you love about the opening titles." Jacobs also confirmed that a "few new names"—presumably Olivia Wilde and Peter Jacobson—have been added to the opening as well.

Question: What's coming up for Scotty and Kevin this season on Brothers & Sisters? —Dennis
Ausiello: "Something very risqué," teases exec producer Greg Berlanti. "I'll leave it at that." You thinking what I'm thinking? 'Cause I'm thinking this has open relationship written all over it.

Question: Any more Gossip Girl scoops? I'm dying here! —Jessica
Ausiello: The bitch is back and more powerful than ever. "Blair at NYU was like throwing a fish far, far out of water," says exec producer Josh Schwartz. "I think [this season] you'll see Blair with her power back, with her swagger back, back in her game, but still troubled by thoughts of Mr. Bass. The Chuck/Blair relationship—whether they're together or not—will always be a huge drive to the show emotionally."

Question: I have created a Facebook campaign for Burt Reynolds to host SNL and I am trying to spread the word about it. Thanks for your time. —Kathleen
Ausiello: What an unbelievable coincidence. I'm starting a Facebook campaign to put an end to Facebook campaigns that involve old people hosting SNL. Spooky.

Question: Any juicy and/or shocking news about the new season of Desperate Housewives? —Arno
Ausiello: Stop me if you've heard this one: More than one cougar will be preying on Brian Austin Green's handyman character. I'm told both Bree (Marcia Cross) and Renee (Vanessa Williams) will sink their claws into the artist formerly known as David Silver this fall.

Question: Did you get any Supernatural scoop at press tour? —Jackie
Ausiello: Sure did. Considering the theme of the season is monsters, it's probably no surprise that the first big mystery concerns, er, monsters. "Sam and Dean are looking into the fact that monsters are acting off-pattern," explains exec producer Sera Gamble. "It's sort of a post-apocalyptic landscape and monsters are acting in various weird ways. It's a monster mystery." Gamble is also hard at work on an episode that pokes fun at the Twilight phenomenon. "I was just doing a bit of work on the script today with [series creator] Eric [Kripke] and he was like, 'So what is this reference to dropping an apple?' I was like, 'You don't know the dropping an apple thing? It's from Twilight!' I was like, 'Come over here! You have to watch the promo!' There are a lot of references to Twilight and our former [timeslot companion] Vampire Diaries."

Question: Do you know how I can get a hold of one of those awesome Entertainment Weekly pillows from your Comic-Con video suite? —Stephanie

Question: With Liz Vassey leaving CSI, what can you tell us about the fate of Wallace Langham? —DJ
Ausiello: He's staying put. In fact, sound like he's getting a promotion. "We're focusing primarily on the core team this season, and I want to bring Hodges more into that core group," says exec producer Carol Mendelsohn, who adds that Vassey will be back in episode 2 to wrap up Wendy's story line. "I think fans will be satisfied. She will be able to say goodbye to Hodges, and Hodges will take his anger and heartbreak out on a fellow tech."

Question: Who is Timothy Olyphant playing on The Office? —Jeff
Ausiello: A rival paper salesman with a deep, dark secret: He used to date Pam!

Question: Thanks for all the How I Met Your Mother spoilers. Can I please have some more, kind sir? —Jen
Ausiello: Yes, ma'am. Ted is getting a serious love interest this season. "There's going to be a new woman in Ted's life that is very complicated and intriguing," says exec producer Craig Thomas. "It's going to be a big arc, a huge arc for this season. It's going to be a little bit less date-of-the-week for Ted, which is what season 5 was. Last season we kind of just had fun with Ted. This year, we're back to the fact that Ted is the "I" in How I Met Your Mother. There's going to be a huge push of forward momentum for Ted on that search and that journey. We're going to meet the biggest female character we've maybe ever added to the show in Ted's life and it's very complicated and intriguing at first. I can't say a lot more than that."

So, we're going to see Jan [Melora Hardin] coming back," Angela spills.

Luca in Santa Monica, Calif.: Seriously? The Office without Michael Scott? Can it be done?
His co-stars are all saying that yes, it will happen! "I don't think it will end at all, because I think there's so much to keep going," Ellie says honestly. Angela dittos her cast member. "I really think as a cast, we feel like an ensemble, and the writers write us that way," Angela tells us. "I know there's usually a main Michael Scott storyline, but we have such a great group of people, I think that anyone could really step up to take on a bigger role of running Scranton branch." But that doesn't mean the folks in the 'hood aren't still partial to their onetime costar. In fact, there is still a picture of Maura in one of the kitchens on the show! And since we know you care, Maura is happy and healthy and excited to get back to work. "It's a really wonderful feeling to know that people care about something that you do," she tells us. "[And] it's a priority for me now to work with people I really like and watch."

Jackie in Los Angeles: I'm so excited to see Maura Tierney back on my TV. Can you tell me anything about her new show The Whole Truth?
First, the lovely Miss Maura isn't the only pretty face in The Whole Truth. Numb3rs star Rob Morrow joins her back on the small screen this fall, and in case you're concerned, this is not your normal procedural. "Every week you get to decide whose case you're liking, and if my case a stronger case or Rob's case is stronger," Maura tells us. "Unfortunately in life, justice is not always achieved. The bad guys don't always get convicted and the good guys don't always succeed, so the audience is privy to that." Plus, Maura's got a teensy bit of insight on the topic—her dad is a lawyer and her brother just passed the bar.


Kristin in Laguna Beach, Calif.: I need Modern Family back in my life. Do you have any scoop to give until it comes back for season two?
At the TCA Press Tour, Emmy nominees Ty Burrell and Sofia Vergara told us they could not wait to get back to work (starting today!), so they are right there with you. And because Ty was sporting a beard that he had to shave off come shooting time, he and Sofia brainstormed a way to keep it for Modern Family. "We could write it into the first episode somehow," he reasons. "Phil's been in the jungle…" "…in Colombia," adds Sofia with a laugh. I bet that would be an awesome episode. Ty and Sofia also let us know that the gang has had a table read for just one episode, so it looks like we'll have to wait until later before we can drop more spoiler bombs on you.

Tom in Dallas: Is it true that Jimmy Johnson is going to be on this season of Survivor? Stay tuned: We will reveal the identities of all the Survivor: Nicaragua Castaways next Monday, Aug. 9 at 6 a.m. PT. Right now, Ryan Murphy is focusing on core character development, so no one has won the big prize yet, but Fox exec Kevin Reilly told reporters Monday morning that it's still very much in the process. " The characters Ryan originally envisioned will be added later [in season two]." So keep your eyes peeled!

Rain in Ohio: Will Adrienne Palicki be back on Friday Night Lights?
She tells us…yes! She confirmed today while promoting her new show Lonestar that she just shot the last two episodes of the upcoming and (likely last ever) season, adding that it was basically like a "big family reunion" and that nearly every original cast member was there.

Jessica in Ohio: Just heard David Cross has joined Will Arnett's new show on Fox. So excited!
Felicity is right there with you! Er, make that the extremely talented (don't you dare say otherwise!) Keri Russell, who will play the girlfriend of David's character on the new Running Wilde, told us this morning: "We fly home this afternoon and start shooting at 6 a.m. Tuesday. And really, what guy could say no to that? He also teased casting his Fools Rush In costar Salma Hayek in the role of quarterback, but yeah, that was a joke.

I can't tell you, but Kim Raver can. And she can report that, yes, "for now, the triangle with Owen and Christina is done." Hollller! Let's chest bump on that one, shall we? Plus, she tells us that we'll get to see Teddy try her hand at romance—with someone new, who is presumably named neither Kevin nor McKidd. "We have some people coming in, very talented, very good looking," she says with a sly smile. "So, Teddy gets to dive into that world, which will be a lot of fun to watch." And watch we will.

That she did! "The main thing you're going to see [when Grey's returns] is who delivers and who doesn't deliver on promises made during the season finale," she tells us. "It's definitely a come-to-Jesus moment for everybody. 'Sh*t or get off the pot.' And the season builds from there. Shonda [Rimes] and the writers found a really beautiful, delicate middle ground from which to spring to the next season. It's going to be really great!"

Please tell me you have some leftover Smallville scoop from Comic-Con?
Justin Hartley is hopping on the Tom Welling bandwagon and taking a stab at directing an episode later this year. "I'm directing episode 20, I think," he told us in SanDiego. "That may change, but it's what I've been told. It's really late in the game so I couldn't really mess things up at that point, right? Or I could ruin it. People might say, 'What is that?! Oh it's Justin's footprint, great. '" Um, we doubt that, but it's cute to know he's a little nervous. And Tom's directing another ep this season, too, so good things are happening all around!

Janine in Yucaipa, Calif.: Any word on when we'll see Clark in the actual Superman suit on Smallville?
There's no exact "when" available at the moment (although Bryan Petersen and Kelly Souders did say during Comic-Con that we will see it in some form in season 10), but Tom Welling tells us this: " Whatever we do, I want to make sure we earn the suit at the end." So expect to see Clark going through some big things before he dons the blue and red.

Joey in Grand Rapids, Mich.: Loved your Bones scoop! Anything else you can spill?
Well, I'm heading to interview David and Emily right now at the Fox party, so stand by! In the meantime, we know we'll be seeing Booth in Afghanistan, but did you know that Emily Deschanel is directing that episode? While talking to us at Comic-Con, they hadn't started filming those episodes quite yet, but Emily had been to the Afghanistan set in Los Angeles to scout it out. "It's very hot," she informs David. "I do not envy you." So, a shirtless scene then, right?


Peggy in Santa Barbara, Calif.: I'm really worried that with the shocking Dexter finale, my favorite serial killer will be totally different next season. Can you ease my mind?
Dexter will be dark this season. Very dark. But, says new show runner Chip Johannesson, it might be a good dark—like a throwback to the Dex of yesteryear. "In a weird way a big weight has been lifted and he's back to the Dexter we know and love from the first season."


Lizzy in Memphis, Tenn.: How does Taylor Kitsch's storyline wrap up on the fourth season of Friday Night Lights? Everything works out, right?
Er, sure. Happy endings are just everywhere in Dillon. And unicorns really leap over rainbows to run wild with puppies that chase bunny rabbits. Come on! You know with the combo of the chop shop and the birth of Billy's child that something bad has to happen. It's the perfect storm, and the perfect opportunity for Taylor to exit with an amazing performance. I'm telling this not to hurt you, but to prepare you. Someone has to do it, after all.

Betsy in Idaho: Any other Cougar Town scoop to spill?
S#*! My Dad Says' loss is Cougar Town's gain, because Ryan Devlin will definitely be back as Laurie's boytoy Smith Jerrod on the sophomore series this fall, big boss Bill Lawrence tells us. Hell to the yes!

Kelly in Austin, Texas: Can you talk about the 90210 premiere and where things are when it returns?
Better yet, well let Michael Steger (Navid) fill you in: "It starts off strongly with Naomi's character dealing with how it left off the season finale," referring of course to the perceived rape in the season finale. And as for that sicko teacher, Michael says: "It's a pretty intense storyline, and he's still around." Still very much around, we're hearing.

Reggie: Is it true that one of the main guys will be gay on 90210 this season?
Yes, it is.


Hannah in Richmond, VA.: Thanks for all the Castle scoop. Nathan Fillion is my boyfriend. Can I get some more goods on the new season?
He's your boyfriend? I guess we can share. Well, you saw that the will they, won't they aspect of Kate and Castle hits a real snag when Kate arrests him in the season opener. Bummer. But the writers told us at Comic-Con that they definitely love playing with that relationship and all the push pull that comes with it, so prepare for more sexual tension! Hooray!

Jessie in Chicago, Ill.: Castle news, if you got it.
Castle's daughter Alexis will be all up in the dating world next season! And even though she takes care of her dad more than he takes care of her, we'll get to see somewhat of a father figure from Castle. And how does Nathan think his character will deal with his daughter's dating life? "I'm sure he'll take it real well," he says sarcastically. Can't wait to see Castle chase off boys with a shotgun!

Jenna in Flemington, N.J.: Do you have any scoop on Psych?
"We're gonna need a Speak 'n Spell and seven pounds of mashed potatoes—that's how much scoop we got from the Psych crew after their amazing panel at Comic-Con, including more details on their upcoming Twin Peaks homage. "It's my favorite TV show of all-time," said star and episode cowriter James Roday, adding, "I think we're going to be able to deliver on a promise of several Twin Peaks alum" in the cast. "We're hoping that we can somehow work Ray Wise [who starred as a priest in last season's Exorcist-themed ep] back into it," said Steve Franks. Most important, said Franks: "There will be pie! And there will be a woman of some sort carrying some sort of log."

Elizabeth in Knoxville, Tenn.: Do you know anything about Psych? I'm excited for some Shawn and Gus psychic detectiving. "Mr. Spencer (James Roday) and his associate (Dulé Hill) will square off against their nemesis Despereaux again in the winter season premiere, Psych's Steve Franks told us at Comic-Con. The detectiving duo return to Canada to extradite the criminal mastermind back to the United States, and "let's just say, stuff happens in this episode," Franks said. "If we get him, Cary Elwes is coming back to play Despereaux."

Nevin in Atlanta: Good lord, True Blood is offing people left and right! Can you tell us what's coming up next?
You've probably heard 90210's Michael Steger is stopping by True Blood later this season, and this new gig is a far cry from his West Bev sleuth. "I'm a drug runaway who has a very interesting trade that feeds into his drug addiction and his lifestyle.," Michael tells us. "It's a really dark youth and he's just a lost soul. I meet the King of Mississippi, and I resemble his love of 700 years. They have an interesting chemistry." Whoa, whoa, whoa—what about Talbot?!


Wendy in Glendale: How does the Jeff and Annie finale kiss affect Troy and Annie on Community?
We're not going to lie. He's going to be pretty bummed. But really, it's Annie who's struggling to deal with the makeout sesh. "Her emotions will run high either way," Alison Brie tells us, "But Annie is so impressionable!"


Kellie from Las Vegas, Nev.: The Office. I only care about one couple in Scranton: Dwight and Angela. What's the word?
Babies! No, seriously. "They start this season with a procreation contract. And Angela is very business like, so she's determined to have her "sex appointments" with Dwight in order for procreation," Angela tells us. Meaning, Angela flat-out corners Dwight about babies. "She does come up to him and they have a system that I don't want to reveal, but it's funny." We hope it doesn't involve trading beets for sex. Actually, that'd be kind of awesome…

Gracie in West Lafayette, Ind.: The cutest couple on TV is Andy and Erin from The Office! Is there hope for them?
Hate to break it to you, but after getting the scoop from Ellie Kemper, it doesn't look so good for Andy and Erin fans. "I'll tell you, at least in the beginning, I think there is romance for Erin, but not with Andy," she reluctantly reveals. In that same answer, she also mentions Zach Woods coming on full time, so we can only assume Erin and Gabe will be doing some work outside the office, if you know what I mean. "I think there's some love between the two of them. I don't know if I can say too much!" Ellie laughs. Darling, you just said more than enough.

‘Psych’s Dulé Hill: ‘You Might See Gus Go Bye-Bye’

Shawn and Gus: one of TV’s most hilarious duos still going strong after five seasons. Each are polar opposites, making you wonder: how can they be friends, much less partners fighting crime? “I think without one or the other, they both would go too far to their respective corners,” says ‘Psych’ star Dulé Hill, who plays Burton “Gus” Guster on the USA comedy. “Gus would live a very boring, lame life [without Shawn].” But will the time ever come when the two will split?

Dulé took a break from filming to chat about Wednesday’s episode, how long he’ll stay on the show, and whether or not Gus has met the mysterious Mr. Yin before.

What’s happening with Gus this season?
Same old hijinks, you know, and mysteries, and basically what always goes on we’ll be repeating the same thing, just bigger and better. He gets to put on some tap shoes this year. Yeah, so that’s an exciting thing. I also – I mean, I do beat somebody [laughs] in one of the episodes coming up.

We saw Gus’s character sing with his Acapella group – do you sing in real life? Do some karaoke in your free time?
Well, I started in musical theater, so from the age of 10, I was doing acting, singing, and dancing. The older I got, the less I kept singing. So I believe I can sing now, but I’m not a singah, you know what I mean? [laughs] I can’t saang. You know what I’m saying? I can sing. But, you know, I’m always singing songs, whether I’m on set or I’m in the shower or, you know, I’ll do karaoke in a heartbeat as long as I know the song.

Earlier in the series, we see Gus more reluctantly dragged along on Shawn’s cases. How do you think their relationship has progressed over the series?
I think any relationship starts figuring out how and where they fit in, and how they can move the ship forward. They both love Psych, they both enjoy doing what they do, and in terms as how its progressed, sometimes Gus might be a little more assertive in telling Shawn no. There will be more Gus realizing he’s the one who has to keep Shawn moving in the right direction. You know, not letting him get too far on the outside. He’s like Shawn’s handler. So I guess Gus is putting more energy into that area. He keeps things focused, he keeps things moving.

Will he ever be ‘Lead’ Inspector, as Shawn puts it, or will Shawn still be calling the shots?
I don’t really think that Shawn is calling the shots. I think it’s a back and forth that happens. Shawn might think that he’s always calling the shots but Gus knows underneath that he’s kind of – sometimes letting things happen in certain ways to get certain places. Will he ever be officially ‘Lead’ Investigator? Ehhh – probably. Probably at one point he’ll be like, ‘No, let me take lead on this. I know what to do.’

In the tap dancing episode coming up, there’s actually a break for a second there because Shawn and Gus have a little rift so we end up going our separate ways. So to the answer to that question, he will be. But I’ll be working with Lassiter, so I’m not really a ‘lead’ investigator there either but I do kind of go off on my own for a little bit.
What’s your relationship with James like off set? Do you guys hang out when the cameras aren’t rolling?
Oh, I can’t stand him. Can’t stand him. No, he’s cool, we have a good time. Especially up here because I see [James] Roday, Maggie [Lawson], and Tim [Omundson] more than I see my family. We definitely have become like a little nucleus up here, where we hang very tight. We have a little spot that we go to every weekend, and we have some drinks, and some food. And especially with Roday, I definitely see him more than I see my wife [laughs].

What’s your favorite episode?
I really enjoyed ‘High Top Fade Out.’ I had a lot of fun doing that one because you saw a little bit more into Gus’s history and some of his personal issues that he’s dealt with. I also enjoyed ‘American Duos’ because I got a chance to dress up as Michael Jackson. Then…let me see. There are so many of them, each episode is always so much fun. I’ve enjoyed doing all the Ying-Yang, like ‘Mr. Yin Presents’ trilogy with Roday and Andy Berman. I really enjoyed those because Ally Sheedy is great: she’s spooky and creepy and she’s fun to play off of, and Jimmi Simpson was great – he died in the last one, and he was a lot to play off also.

In a shocking twist in last season’s finale, we see a photo of Mr. Yang (Ally Sheedy) with a young Shawn. Without revealing too much, did Mr. Yang (or Mr. Yin for that matter) meet Gus too, seeing as they’re basically attached to the hip?
That is a question for Andy Berman and James Roday because being as the script has not been written yet [laughs], I don’t know. But I would hope – my answer is I hope not because Yin is creepy. Shawn was probably somewhere he should not have been and Gus was like, “I’m not going!” [Laughs].

Gus is more cautious, while Shawn is more of a risk taker. Who do you relate more to more in real life?
I think I’m a mixture of both. I do like to take risks, and I do like to just slide by the seat of my pants sometimes but other times, I’m like, ‘Look, I’m not doing that. That’s just crazy, and stupid, and forget that. You can do whatever you want to do, but this dude is staying right here.’ [Laughs]

How many seasons do you think ‘Psych’ will ultimately wind up with?
How many seasons? Wow. That’s a really good question. And that’s a question for fans and USA to answer, you know, because as long as the fans are tuning in, then USA will keep picking us up.

How long would you stay with it?
I would say after season 5, I would say in the next two seasons, you might see Gus go bye-bye. Two or three seasons at the most, I’d be surprised if it got to three but who knows.

Besides the fact that it's far and away one of the best series pilots we've seen in recent history, Showtime announced today that we can all mark our calendars for its much-anticipated premiere date: Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011 at 10 p.m. And get ready to see some acting genius coming from Emmy Rossum, who is easily an awards season shoo-in next year. The picture on the right is a little misleading though, sadly, because Alison Janney (aka West Wing's C.J. and evilish mother of Lost's Jacob) is no longer a part of the project because of her new gig on ABC's Mr. Sunshine.

Gina in Montpelier, Vt.: What's ahead on the next season of Project Runway? Hope it's better than what we saw last year.
No word yet on the quality of Project Runway's eighth season, but the quantity is definitely greater. As in each episode is now 90 minutes a pop! How's that sounds? P.R. premieres Thursday, July 29. Here's a quick peek for you.

Now here's what we can tell you: The bulk of what's getting out on the interwebs from Gossip Girl's shoot in Paris is mainly Chuck and her new galpal, and Blair and Serena pushing each other into fountains. But we have it on good authority that B & C will in fact reunite in the city of love, there are some discussions to be had. Don't expect the two to head back to NYC all lovey-dovey, but maybe, just maybe Blair will begin to forgive Chuck for his Jenny-wandering ways.

Megan in South Carolina: Any Gossip Girl fun to pass along?
Looksie what we found! Daddy-to-be Dan (Penn Badgley) and his apparently back from Haiti girlfriend Vanessa (Jessica Szhor) aren't taking this potential parenthood thing lightly. After learning he's going to have a little bundle of joy with that big bundle of joy Georgina (Michelle Trachtenberg) in the finale, D &V were spotted pushing around a stroller (containing a fake baby?practice makes perfect, right?!) in New York this week. But it's nice to see these two looking happy, no?

Don't be such a Negative Nellie! And, as a matter of fact, Mr. Carell just gave us (and The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences) a little ultimatum?one that might make fans of The Office quite happy: "If I win the Emmy [for Best Actor in a Comedy], I'll stay. Just want to put that out there." Hmmm, Steve much not think he'll win throwing around such promises so frivolously, but guess what? Sadly, this one will probably never materialize, but Steve Carell pitched an interesting guest star our way: Paul Rudd! Ummm, hello amazing idea. Sadly, Steve said Paul should play Jim and Pam's child?which doesn't really work since Cece Halpert is both an infant...and a girl. Any other idea for bringing Steve's constant costar onboard?

Matthew in Carmel Ranch: What's the deal with True Blood's new werewolf, Debbie Pelt?
She's 100% wackadoodle, that's for sure. But we haven't seen the end of Alcide and Debbie. "Debbie doesn't put too many rules on anything. There's a little bit of a love triangle [between Alcide and Cooter]," Brit Morgan tells us. And get ready for more throwdowns with Sookie as time goes on. "Our paths definitely cross, and not in a nice way. Debbie's not fond of Sookie. It's not good."

Patty in Hollywood Hills, Calif.: I love Dennis O'Hare on True Blood. Anything ahead for the King?
Lots and lots of blood, so says Dennis. "Russell steps up to defend the earth because he feels like humans abdicate it. He wants them to step back, and vampires will run things because they'll do a little better." Unfortunately, all does not go well for the Mississippi man. In fact, by the end: "I'm wearing a trench coat and flip flops and I'm much bloodier. I've fallen from grace. It's a big character arch, where I end up going through a lot of pain and a lot of blood shed." Dun-dun-dun.

Show runner Matt Weiner just revealed this: "The dramatic way that season three ended, we took it very seriously and started over in many aspects. There's a show there that has all the same characters in it with very new situations to prove to be a rich story vein." How's that tickle your fancy?

A lot of viewers have had that thought, but that’s not how it works – the two shows don’t share a pool of money. And ‘Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior’ (as it apparently will stay titled) won’t simply be a replica of the original. Rather, measures are being taken to give it a distinct feel, a la ‘CSI’ and ‘CSI: Miami,’ or ‘NCIS’/'NCIS: LA.’ Bringing on Janeane Garofalo is just (admittedly curious) one step in that direction.

By now, you’ve seen the premiere, which IMO was a bit thin. I’ll say this for the NBC comedy: Few pilots have ever been as efficient in establishing their premise. Seriously, it’s like Whoosh-Bam! Middle American dude gets plopped in his company’s call center in India. The pilot was “fine,” but this show can only be assessed once it gets the painfully obvious culture clash jokes out of its system and starts exploring the characters in a real way. I double-checked for you, and ‘Camelot’ – starring ‘FlashForward’s Joseph Fiennes (as Merlin), Eva Green (Morgana), Jamie Campbell Bower (Arthur) and Tamsin Egerton (Guinevere) – is a closed-end, 10-episode series, set to premiere in early 2011.

‘Psych’s Shawn Spencer (played by James Roday) will meet his match – and then some – when ‘Lost‘ alum Nestor Carbonell joins the USA Network series for a multi-episode arc, Fancast has learned exclusively.

The Big Tease: Scoop On ‘Good Wife,’ ‘Psych’ and More

Carbonell has been cast in the role of Declan Rand, a criminal profiler who over the course of two episodes will shape up to be Shawn’s professional – as well as romantic – rival.

So savvy is Declan at what he does, I am told, that Gus (Dule Hill) will dub him “Shawn 2.0.” Gus!

How will Shawn react to being one-upped by this “upgrade”? Or might Shawn 2.0 be harboring a few… glitches?


Prior to playing ‘Lost’s ageless Richard Alpert, Carbonell enjoyed roles on such TV series as ‘The Tick,’ ‘Strong Medicine’ and ‘Suddenly Susan.’ His big-screen credits meanwhile include ‘The Dark Knight.’

Ausiello: Starz wasn’t kidding when it said the new season would be more global in scope. I’m hearing the show will shoot a chunk of the season on location in Los Angeles. Captain Jack’s going Hollywood!

Ausiello: More season 2 casting intel: The show is adding the recurring roles of Eric, a slightly rugged new young teacher at Westmonte High, and Paige, Ryan’s sassy, flirty, and free-spirited younger sister recently back from her Eat, Pray, Love tour. Hey, there’s a movie about that opening soon!

Question: What’s in store on 90210 in season 3? —Ken
Ausiello: Johnny Depp’s making a zip stop! Kind of but not really. The show is adding a major new recurring character who’s “one part Talented Mr. Ripley, one part young Johnny Depp, and all parts sexy.” The 18-year-old Brit is a childhood chum of Ivy’s, which raises the question: Where did Ivy grow up, Cambridge?

Ausiello: It wasn’t enough that I told you that Taylor Kitsch, Adrianne Palicki, and Zach Gilford were returning? Hmm…what other scoops do I have up my sleeve…oh, here’s something: A shocking spoiler about the final two episodes of season 5 appears in the pages of the new issue of Entertainment Weekly (on sale tomorrow). Question: I know that the creators of Spartacus are working on a prequel to give Andy Whitfield time to recover. Is there any other news about him or the show? —Kat
Ausiello: Good news: Reports that Whitfield is cancer-free were all but confirmed yesterday when Starz announced that the actor would be attending Comic-Con next month. As far as the show itself, the untitled prequel — which will focus on John Hannah’s Batiatus and Lucy Lawless’ Lucretia — is slated to go into production this fall ahead of a January ’11 premiere. Season 2, meanwhile, will likely debut in fall ’11.

Question: I’m totally brokenhearted that A.J. Cook’s contract with Criminal Minds is not being renewed. Please tell me that they’re going to have her come back long enough to explain JJ’s departure and give her a proper send-off! –Hazel

Ausiello: Exec producer Jason Katims is cooking up another juicy mother-daughter story line for Lauren Graham and Mae Whitman. “Amber’s going to make a new friend and she comes from an upper-crust kind of background,” Katims explains. “It becomes complicated for Sarah because Amber’s suddenly being taken into this world that’s out of her grasp.”

Question: The True Blood premiere was awesome. What’s coming up, ahem, necks? —Tyler
Ausiello: Tee-hee. You swapped next for necks in a question about True Blood. Tee-hee. Here’s some prattle for you, straight from series creator Alan Ball: In the second half of the season, “all hell breaks loose,” he tells my colleague Tim Stack. “Certainly, everybody finds themselves in danger. Loyalties are tested. There’s a lot of deceit.” And though the lies will be spread around, the dots will connect in the end. The stories “do converge,” Ball confirms, culminating in a season finale that he calls “very big. [But] it doesn’t center around one particular event the way the first one did. The first one was all about Rene chasing Sookie. The second one was all about Maryann’s ritual. This is a lot of big events” leading up to “definitely more than one cliff-hanger.” I’m on the edge of my seat already!
