This is Spoilers Anonymous In-Depth, a weekly column here at TV Squad where we discuss and give our two cents about recently-released spoilers and how they may affect the storylines, shows and fans. This in-depth version of the column goes hand in hand with our weekly spoilers column where we supply you with the dirt on some of the more popular shows on the air.
This week we discuss various spoilers recently released for the first few episodes of the upcoming season of 'Psych.'
Contrary to what some websites list, know that the fifth season of 'Psych' will premiere on July 14 and not July 21. USA Network made this announcement about two weeks ago. As the season premiere is fast approaching, spoilers are being leaked all over the place for our enjoyment and to help us wait for the return our of favorite "detective" duo.
Here are the spoilers I will discuss this week:
- Juliet will still be coping with the aftermath of being held captive by the sinister Yin and dangled from the clock tower. She will also turn into a brunette to show her new serious demeanor.
- Freddie Prinze Jr. will guest star in at least one episode as Dennis, Shawn and Gus' old pal who was once a nerd.
- In an upcoming episode, Gus and Lassiter will learn to tap dace.
- There may be a musical this season.
None of these spoilers are earth shattering and fans will more than likely not campaign against these happening. However, each are interesting when looking at them as a fan of the show.
As the spoilers say, Juliet will go through a rough patch in the first batch of episodes. As a fan, it will surely be a tad heart breaking to watch Juliet go through this phase. However, luckily for her and our entertainment, Shawn will surely be there to try to cheer her up with tons of silliness. He'll surely enlist Gus' help in trying to make Juliet smile. I wouldn't be surprise that even Lassiter will go in uncharted territory for him and try to cheer his partner up.
I don't know if you've been watching '24' this last season, but Freddie Prinze Jr. majorly got on my nerves. I'm not a fan of him right now and was extremely disappointed in his '24' performance. What didn't help Prinze is that, before the last season began, the show's Powers That Be kept telling us his role would be fantastic and could even lead to a spin-off! Yeah, right. I'm pretty sure I'll still feel like that when Prinze appears on 'Psych' which will more than likely affect how I'll appreciate his character of Dennis. On the good side, his character will more than likely unearth some fun tidbits about Gus and Shawn when they were younger. That sort of intel is always welcomed, no?
My two favorite characters are Gus and Lassiter and I know, from reading bulletin boards and blogs, that I'm not the only who roots for them each week. What a joy will it be to watch Gus and Lassiter learn to tap dance. I can already picture them having to learn it because they need to go undercover and that they'll be really bad dancers. That outcome can only bruise Lassiter's ego and will offer Shawn multiple opportunities to make fun of his sidekick and Lassiter.
There needs to be a musical episode before the season ends. If the 'Ebony & Ivory' promo from two years ago is any indication of how a musical episode can turn out for 'Psych,' then we are in for a fantastic and entertaining ride. I've watched the 'Ebony & Ivory' performance dozens of times so far and I still can't believe the level of chemistry James Roday and Dulé Hill have and how fun it is to watch them perform together. Also, the show is big on mentioning TV shows, movies, and pop culture from the 80s, so it wouldn't be a surprise if their musical episode featured music from the 80s. Wouldn't it be just fantastic?! Maybe the musical could be a huge flashback to Gus and Shawn's days in high school so that we also get some backstory while at it?
