The New Jersey TV wave could be coming to broadcast.

CBS has picked up a crime drama project set in Newark.

“Justified” writer-producer Gary Lennon has sold a script to the network that chronicles the first female police chief in the Garden State’s troubled city. The character must battle crime and law-enforcement corruption as well as a difficult home life.

If greenlighted to series, the drama would bring Jersey to broadcast at a time when shows set in the state are proliferating on cable.

CBS Television Studios is producing the project. Lennon and fellow “Justified” vets Carl Beverly and Sarah Timberman are executive producing.

In addition to writing on FX’s breakout freshman drama, Lennon also has worked on ABC’s “The Unusuals” and FX’s “The Shield.”

CAA brokered the deal.
