Michael Trucco is the first to acknowledge that things didn’t work out too well between his ‘Castle‘ character, Detective Tom Demming, and Stana Katic’s Detective Kate Beckett.
“In that season finale, she kicked me to the curb,” he relates. “‘Don’t let the door hit you in the a–’!”
But Trucco is also the first to say there is a need for – and possibly will be – better closure for Beckett’s short-lived workplace romance.
“It’s complete rumor and hearsay, but there is a chance I could come back to resolve that,” Trucco tells Fancast.
The catch of course is that Trucco now is busy with a lead role on the USA Network series ‘Facing Kate,’ premiering this fall and on which he stars opposite Sarah Shahi (’Life’).
As such, he notes that assorted “powers-that-be, scheduling conflicts, rival networks” could stand in the way of him mixing it up with Castle (played by Nathan Fillion) again. “But if they asked me to do it and I could, I’d do it in a heartbeat,” Trucco says.
Speaking of the new Kate in his life, Trucco describes the dynamic between him and Shahi’s titular lawyer-turned-mediator like this: “We are ‘exes with benefits,’ so we end up in bed together just about every episode – even though we shouldn’t be! It’s a dysfunctional relationship… toxic, even.”
‘Castle’ fans, would any of you like to see Trucco return for one more episode? Or are things already too complicated for Kate and Rick now that her former training officer (played by Jason Beghe, ‘American Dreams’) – with whom she may have once been involved with – is showing up this season?
