FX has renewed the Louis C.K. comedy "Louie" for a second season.
Plus the network has ordered a comedy pilot from the makers of "Reno 911" that's set in space. Titled "U.S.S. Alabama," the show is from Thomas Lennon and Ben Garant and will be part-scripted and part-improvised, just like "Reno 911."
At TCA, the network's entertainment president John Landgraf said he hopes to expand FX's original series to "six or seven or eight" comedies and about a dozen shows overall.
Landgraf also said that, for actors, in recent years it has become more prestigious to land a cable show.
"It's become a status symbol for an actor to have a cable show," Landgraf said. "A lot of being a movie star is being in a latex costume in front of a green screen wearing guide-wires and learning to do karate."
Finishing up the session, Landgraf noted, "I haven't said anything Tweet-worthy," then announced: Peter Rice told me I could deny that Steve McPherson is becoming a judge on 'American Idol.'"
