Ask Ausiello 7/7/10

Question: Is John Casey’s daughter, Alex (Mekenna Melvin), going to be a series regular next season on Chuck? —Charles
Ausiello: She’ll be the next best thing to a series regular: a recurring guest star. (That noise you hear is Morgan fantasizing about their awkward first date.)

Question: Will Jessalyn Gilsig be a regular on Glee next season? I absolutely love Terri, but I fear I’m the only one! —Rion
Ausiello: You’re not the only one. I like Terri. But more importantly, series creator Ryan Murphy likes Terri — and he proved it by picking up her series-regular option for season 2 (albeit at a slightly reduced guarantee). Well, technically speaking, Twentieth Television picked up her option, but I’m sure Murphy had a hand in it.

Question: Castle scoop, pretty please? —Becca
Ausiello: When the show returns this fall, promotion for Castle’s new book, Naked Heat, will be in full swing. Of particular interest to Beckett will be the provocative image depicted in the posters, which will be splashed throughout the city.

Question: Is it true that Damages has been canceled? —Nancy
Ausiello: Sources at FX and Sony insist they’re still talking to DirecTV about acquiring the show. My guess? This is how the conversation is going…

Sony/FX: Please pick up Damages. It’s a good show.
DirecTV: No.
Sony/FX: But you took Friday Night Lights. Pretty please?
DirecTV: Still no.
Sony/FX: Pretty please with sugar on top?
DirecTV: I’ll cut a bitch!

Question: Any update on the CSI contract negotiations? I’m psyched Marg Helgenberger is sticking around but I’m worried about the others. —Luca
Ausiello: THIS JUST IN: Eric Szmanda (Greg) has inked a new deal as well! That leaves George Eads (Nick), Paul Guilfoyle (Jim), and Jorja Fox as the only season 11 question marks.

Question: Anything you can tell me about the upcoming season of White Collar to satisfy my cravings? —Rachel
Ausiello: Would you believe me if I told you that Matt Bomer’s Neal and Marsha Thomason’s Diana hit the sheets in the second episode back?

Question: Do you have any scoop on Fringe? —Gena
Ausiello: As foreshadowed by the chalkboard anagram in Walternate’s lab in the season finale, Sam Weiss (a.k.a. actor Kevin Corrigan) will make an appearance or two (or more) in season 3.

Question: Rumor has it Starz has expressed interest in picking up Legend of the Seeker. —Jason
Ausiello: Rumor has it that rumor is 100 percent hogwash.

Question: Will you be hosting another Aushole party? If so, how do I get on the guest list? —Wendy
Ausiello: I’ll actually be hosting a party within a party. As far as getting on the guest list, check my blog (and Twitter feed) for RSVP details in the coming days. It’s a first-come, first-served sort of deal just like last year, so you snooze, you lose.

Question: The new season of Rescue Me just started — any scoop? And, more importantly, will your awesomeness ever stop?— Carlos
Ausiello: Something life-threatening is going to happen to a major character whose name rhymes with Boo! I’m guessing that second question was rhetorical?

Question: I know I might be in the minority here, but I absolutely love your blind items, and there haven’t really been any since May sweeps. Will more of them be on the way soon? —Alex
Ausiello: I was about to do one on the ******* **t*** on a show you guys are obsessed with, but for reasons I can’t get into, I was forced to kill it — at least for the time being.

Question: I was wondering if you can share any Friday Night Lights spoilers concerning Tim/Tyra reconnecting. I hope it will work out this time. —Sarah
Ausiello: Does the abbreviation FWB mean anything to you?

Question: You seem like a smart-ass who talks big but could not fight his way out of a wet paper bag. —Cory
Ausiello: I won’t lie. That’s me in a nutshell.

Question: I love My Boys too, so it’s not just, like, three fans. —Dani
Ausiello: You’re right. There are four of you now. EW’s Kate Ward recently came out and admitted she likes Boys too. She even offered me this scoop about this season’s “awesome” second episode: “After a lousy night out, Bobby, PJ, and Kenny end up at home accidentally eating Brandon’s pot brownies and get really high. High jinks ensue. It’s very funny.”

Question: Is Patricia Wettig (Holly) leaving Brothers & Sisters? I sure hope not, because I love me some Holly and Nora scenes. —Nathan
Ausiello: All I know for sure is that Holly survives Carmageddon. That’s a lie. I also know that she plays a pivotal role in daughter Rebecca’s impending departure. “The way that Rebecca is going to be leaving is very exciting,” teases exec producer David Marshall Grant, “and it involves not just Justin but her mother. It’s a great story.”

Question: Any Brothers & Sisters scoop? —Ben
Ausiello: Grant all but confirms that Kevin and Scotty will eschew surrogacy for foster care when they take in a homeless teen this fall. “We’re casting a Hispanic kid who is going to be very prominent in Kevin and Scotty’s story this year,” he tells me. Additionally, Grant is on the lookout for an actor to play a possible suitor for grieving widow Kitty. “She has a ways to go before she’s really going to land on a boyfriend,” concedes Grant. “But men will certainly play a part in her life as she moves past the tragedy. We are actually looking for somebody right now that she’s going to meet around episode 3.”

Question: Any summer guilty pleasures you’d like to recommend? —Nick
Ausiello: I finally got around to watching Starz’ Spartacus: Blood and Sand and it’s officially my new crack. I’m seven episodes in and I’m hooked. If Andy Whitfield is reading this — and let’s face it, he probably is — I’m sorry I failed to include you in my Dream Emmy Ballot. I hope to one day make it up to you.
